Boys or Girls, men or women, shoes are a common obsession for all. Well even if not an obsession, we still end up owning a couple or more of them. Each outfit, traditional or contemporary, sportswear or beachwear, and partywear or office wear, may require a different pair of footwear.
Well this may often end up in a space crunch for shoe storage, especially in compact homes, leading to a quest to find the right shoe rack for your home and shoe needs. So here I am, sharing my shoe rack story and its evolution with time.
First and foremost, I would talk about my first shoe rack, which was a portable metal rack with six shelves, four wheels and a removable cover. It was big enough to house 20 pairs and the cover had four side pockets (two on each side) for storing shoe lace, polish, brush etc. The removable cover gives the flexibility of usage both with and without the cover. While the former will make it a 5 shelves rack, the latter would make space for an extra shelf on top, after removing the cover. The shoe rack is strong, sturdy and durable, yet handy enough to easily move around and fit in any corner of the house. The mobility of this shoe rack also facilitates easy cleaning with broom and mop, on a daily basis. With abundant storage space, it offers a neat, systematic and organised storage system for the family. It is also easy to disassemble the rack, by unscrewing the bolts in case of shifting from one house to another. After disassembling and packing, the rack is as compact as just a few metal shelves stacked together. In case, there is a requirement of a smaller shoe rack, this can be easily adapted for the same by removing a shelf or two, from the rack, with an obvious option of putting them back later, if required. However, the length would be unaffected, with wider gap between shelves, in this case. With so many benefits, it seemed as just the right product for us and we bought two of them for a family of four.
We were quite happy with this product, until we moved to a house which did not have a storeroom. That’s when we realised that there’s more, even to a shoe rack like visual appeal and aesthetics, than just the functionality, if it needs to be placed in the lobby or the living room.
To sum-up if you are looking for a shoe rack that is sturdy yet light, easily movable yet provides ample space to stack up your footwear, comes with option of using standalone or with cover, has flexible racking mechanism and you do not really want your shoe rack to look great visually or blend with your lobby/living room furniture, then this type of shoe-rack is the one to go for.
