Ever lived in an apartment with plain, bland walls and minimal or no wood work? Well, there’s quite a possibility of an affirmative response, if you happen to live in a rented apartment. There may be times when we tend to ignore the vanilla walls, but at other times, we may just want to change them. Likewise, I had been longing to change the décor of my rented apartment, to make it feel more like home. I wanted to beautify my humble abode and display some items on the plain walls, without incurring any major expense on woodwork. So, I wanted a durable wood finish shelf that looks like regular carpenter-built woodwork but is still economical and one that can be easily assembled or dis-assembled, while shifting homes.
My Experience
I am happy to have tried a wall mounted floating shelf, as it surely did add some life to my vanilla walls. It feels so much better and welcoming to enter the home, after this slight modification on the entrance wall of my house. It is sturdy, stable and strong enough to hold a Laughing Buddha. It also has 4 hooks to hang keys or any other paraphernalia. There are a lot of options available like Rajasthani Handicrafts, birds with hanging beads or ‘shubh labh’ wall hangings that can be suspended from these hooks to decorate the entrance wall, as per individual preference. I am using ‘shubh labh’ wall hangings and some feng shui hangings, which I keep on alternating, as and when I like. This wall shelf is also a very useful and practical addition to my wall, as I am not only using it for ornamental purpose but also functional use. I have used this shelf to place a sanitiser bottle, right in front of the main door. Well this placement of the sanitiser comes really handy. We don’t need to rush inside home again, just to wash hands after putting on footwear. With a quick puff from the sanitiser, we are ready to head outdoors. It is a durable quality product and is beautifully housing the Laughing Buddha in my house, for a year now. After using this removable, easy to install wall shelf, I had also ordered another set of floating shelves in a different style, for a different utility.
Other Features
This wall mounted floating shelf is available in two colours matte finish wenge and brown. I am using the matte finished shelf, as it blends well with my furniture and complements the decor. The shelf comes in a pre-assembled state, with two hooks in the back and some nails. All that is required, is to drill a hole and fix it on the wall. It is made of medium density fibreboard, which has higher density than plyboard. The length of the product is around 5.5 inches, which suited me, as I did not have a lot of things to display on it.
